The second part of my stay on the island of Hawaii was at the ocean front Fairmont Orchid - a lovely property on the Kohala coast north of Kailua-Kona and the Airport. This area is geologically very interesting - it is barren and rocky with sporadic oases dotted along the coast; you are passing over a number of lava flows from the three volcanoes - Hualalai, Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa.
The hotel while not overly large sits within a larger development of condos, hotels and shopping villages but it never feels like you are in a large development.
The hotel has a number of dining options - for good, casual fare eat at the beachfront Hale Kai - the food was yummy and the setting lovely. Browns restaurant is open only for dinner and comes with nightly live, local entertainment.
A Canadian Virtuoso travel advisor's stories and photos of places she's travelled and would like to send her clients, friends and family. Sometimes have to take long breaks between posts - life gets busy and I need time away from the computer to maintain my sanity.
